Online since yesterday: A radio interview/podcast on Entertainment Weekly. Moderator Anthony Breznican discusses the Dark Tower Movie adaptation with Stephen King and Director Nicolas Arcel. There is nothing really new or suprising, but it’s a good summary about the history, the actors, and also contains some hints about where the story picks up.
Stephen King makes clear the first movie will start with the sentence “The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed“. However, as announced before, the first movie will not focus on the first book, “The Gunslinger”. Instead, it will start somewhere in the middle of the story and play mostly in “our world”. Also, the idea to produce movies with an accompanying tv show covering the earlier story of the books and probably Roland’s youth still seems to be alive.
As reported by comicbook.com and comicbookmovie.com, Claudia Kim (known from Avengers: Age of Ultron) joined the cast for the Dark Tower movie adaptation. Apparently she will play Arra Champignon, a character from the Marvel Comics spinoff. Further details can be also found at tracking-board.com.
As reported by Deadline.com, Jackie Early Haley will co-star in the upcoming Dark Tower movie adaption as Richard Patrick Sayre. This character, a vampire leader, is appearing in Dark Tower books 5-7, indicating that the first movie will indeed not only cover the first three books. More detailed information here at Lilja’s Library.
Surely there will be more news about the Dark Tower movie adaption very soon. Filming has just begun some days ago, and the movie is planned to premiere in cinemas in February 2017.

Recent reports from Deadline.com stated that Abbey Lee will be the female main character “Tirana“ in the upcoming Dark Tower Movie. Eric Vespe („Quint“) now reported on aintitcool.com that her role in the movie will just be minor. Mentioning “Tirana“ to be a lead character in the first Dark Tower Movie has led to some confusion before: The character is a servant of the Crimson King and only appears shortly in the seventh Dark Tower book. Now, Abbey Lee apparently will have a cameo in the Dark Tower Movie as “Tirana”. Not a female lead at all, but it still remains unclear why this character appears in the first movie that early in the story.
At the begin of March 2016 it was reported that the Dark Tower Movie will be realized with Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers. Sony announced that the Movie will head to theaters in February 2017, and filming should begin in 7 weeks from then. This would be already in around 2 weeks! But still, we don’t know much more details about the movie yet. However, recent statements from Eric Vespe on ainitcool.com are in line with some of the confusion seeded by casting characters like Tirana from the seventh book of the saga for the first movie. He reported that the movie will focus mainly on the relationship between Roland and Jake and contain parts from at least book three and book one. This means the chronology of the story we know from the books will be changed massively for the movie adaptation. Continue reading Abbey Lee is not the Femal Lead in the Dark Tower Movie→
